Description
I took this photo on 9/16/2022 at the wonderful Bear Rocks Preserve of Dolly Sods Wilderness in Tucker county West Virginia. I had went up about 2 hours before dark so I took a few photos and waited, trying to get my camera focused and ready for what was to come. The skies were perfectly clear. It was a cool 45 degrees and the wind was steady as always. The conditions were perfect and I was completely alone. Sometimes being alone in the dark can be a scary thing, but when you're so focused on what's going on in the sky, it's easy to get carried away and not really have time to think about anything else. I suppose that's why its so addicting.
I have been messing around with the milky way for a few years now and I believe I am getting the hang of things. The milky way can be so tricky to shoot because a lot more comes into play. The wind, constant fog on the lens, planes, satellites, headlight beams from the occasional vehicle. Timing is everything. I take the foreground shots as planes and cars pass by and the sky shots when I have my window.
I hope you have at least enjoyed viewing this and some of my other work. I really took my time with this one to make sure it was as perfect as I can get for now. I can't wait to get out for some fall photography. Happy shooting!
This image is mage from 2 photos taken at 8:34 pm just after the sun went down. I shot this with a Nikon D7200 and a Rokinon 10mm Ultrawide lens. Both photos were edited in Lightroom and then blended in Photoshop with a final edit in LR.
