I took this photo on 9/16/2022 at the wonderful Bear Rocks Preserve of Dolly Sods Wilderness in Tucker county West Virginia. I had went up about 2 hours before dark so I took a few photos and waited, trying to get my camera focused and ready for what was to come. The skies were perfectly clear. It was a cool 45 degrees and the wind was steady as always. The conditions were perfect and I was completely alone. Sometimes being alone in the dark can be a scary thing, but when you're so focused on what's going on in the sky, it's easy to get carried away and not really have time to think about anything else. I suppose that's why its so addicting.
I have been messing around with the milky way for a few years now and I believe I am getting the hang of things. The milky way can be so tricky to shoot because a lot more comes into play. I started photography in 2012. I grew up in a small town in West Virginia and lived there most of my life. Growing up around Tucker County, I constantly had the opportunity to visit all the surrounding state parks and scenic landscapes. I was probably a little spoiled in that respect. I now reside in Maryland, but West Virginia will always hold a special place in my heart. I will photograph just about anything, but I prefer landscapes the most. Recently I've been fascinated with astrophotography combined with landscape photography. It's just such a challenge.
